5 Of The Best UK Christmas Markets To Visit This Year

Matt Crisp October 31, 2017

It’s only a week or so now until the much-anticipated Christmas markets open up around the UK… but which one to visit first? Here’s a quick rundown of some of the very best festive markets to check out in 2017. Enjoy!

Manchester Christmas Markets

This year, the markets open on November 10th and stay that way until December 20th so you’ve got all the time in the world to do your Christmas shopping while supping on mulled wine and eating hog roast. Naturally, the traditional European fare will be very much in evidence but there are some new additions to the line-up this year, including Yorkshire Burrito – a huge rolled Yorkshire pudding stuffed with a variety of fillings and then toasted on a panini maker!

Edinburgh Christmas Market

There are two markets popping up in this stunning city – one on George Street (November 17th to December 24th) and on East Princes Street Gardens (November 18th to January 6th). The European market will have lots of delicious food of course, and there’s also a Scottish market with lots of local food and Scottish brewed beer. Make sure you take the kids to Santa Land as well.

Bath Christmas Market

More than 200 chalets will be setting up shop between November 23rd and December 10th – and the stunning setting of the city’s Georgian streets make this a really fun day out for all the family. Keep your cameras at the ready as you’re sure to want to capture the occasion.

Certain events are also taking place over the coming weeks, with school choirs, carols by candlelight, chamber choirs, theatre, Christmas crafts and lots more going on.

Southbank Christmas Market

This market will be in situ between November 10th and January 4th, so you’ll have no trouble getting into the Christmas spirit – and staying that way! For something really special, pop off to the Finnish rooftop sauna with amazing views of the River Thames after you’ve done all your Christmas shopping.

The market itself will play host to Nordic-inspired wooden chalets with all sorts of gifts, treats, drinks and festive food to enjoy. Vegan street food specials will also be available, as will raclette, Asian street food and more traditional fare like bratwurst.

Jingle Paws Christmas Market

No need to leave the dogs out of the festive fun this year, either – if you’re anywhere near Glasgow, you might want to head off to the Jingle Paws Christmas Market on December 19th, run by The Edward Foundation for dogs and their owners. It’s also on the same day as the Santa Dash annual fun run in the city centre so you’ll have a wonderful day out.

Apparently, there’s a dog show, homemade treats just for puppers, handmade crafts and gifts, mulled wine, a Santa’s grotto and lots of delicious food. What on earth could be better than that?
