Where Will You Go After Lockdown Ends?

While the UK is currently in lockdown and people everywhere have to self-isolate and practice social distancing measures to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, that doesn’t mean you can’t look to the future and start thinking about where your next holiday will be once restrictions have been lifted. Remember – lockdown can’t and won’t last forever!

A new survey carried out by holiday rental marketplace Snaptrip, reported on by Country Living, has revealed that the Scottish Highlands is thus far proving to be the most popular choice of destination for Brits planning their first post-pandemic trip away.

The Highlands were closely followed by Snowdonia in second place and the Yorkshire Dales in third, with Cornwall and the Lake District following in fourth and fifth… all of which would make wonderful destinations for a well-earned break once the current crisis has passed.

If the Highlands are at the top of your list, there are a few sights and attractions you must make sure you check off your bucket list before you head home again.

Make sure you go and see Ben Nevis for a start, near the town of Fort William. It attracts hundreds of thousands of walkers each year, so you’ll be in excellent company when we are finally allowed out of the house again.

Apparently, it was once a huge active volcano that collapsed on itself millions of years ago following an eruption and you can see evidence of an explosion at the summit in the form of some light-coloured granite.

If Snowdonia is your destination of choice, there’s a huge amount to see and do as well. What about catching the mountain railway right to the top of the mountain?

Or you could do some castle hopping and visit the likes of Caernarfon, Harlech and Conwy on a fun tour of the region. And make sure you check out the ancient quarry mine of Llechwedd near Blaenau Ffestiniog in Gwynedd as well.

As for Cornwall, the Eden Project is obviously a must-visit, two biomes filled with all sorts of plants from diverse climates and environments… certainly worth an explore. And you should also make time to visit the Minack Theatre, an incredible open-air site built above a gully with a rocky outcrop that juts out into the sea.

Of course, we need to make sure that we’re all staying at home at the moment in order to help reduce the pressure on the NHS and keep those most vulnerable safe at this incredibly challenging time, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start putting plans in place for a lovely trip away once this comes to an end.

It could be just the project you need to help you stay positive and really give you something to look forward to.
