Glastonbury Festival Tickets Sell Out In Less Than An Hour

Tickets for the Glastonbury Music Festival sold out in less than 24 hours, according to the organisers. The Guardian reports that the batch of standard tickets, costing £360 each, were snapped up shortly after being made available at 9am on Sunday 19 November. Coach travel tickets went on sale three days earlier and sold out within 25 minutes.

There will be a re-sale of any cancelled or returned tickets in spring 2024. Traditionally, the tickets go on sale at the beginning of November, but it was put back by two weeks this year due to registration problems. The organisers said that some music fans had not been made aware that their registration had expired, and the delay gave them a chance to re-register.

The festival organisers posted on X: “Tickets for Glastonbury 2024 have now sold out. Our thanks to everyone who bought one and we’re sorry to those of you who missed out, on a morning when demand greatly exceeded supply. There will be a resale of any cancelled or returned tickets in spring 2024.”

Emily Eavis, daughter of festival founder Michael Eavis, added on Instagram: “We’re blown away that so many people want to come (we all still remember the years when they didn’t!) and I’m sorry that many of you missed out. Demand far exceeds supply and with many millions of devices trying at once, it means the system can only work at certain speed.”” 

It is necessary to register in advance if you want to purchase a ticket, in an effort to prevent touting. There is huge demand for tickets, with an estimated two and half million people attempting to buy the 210,000 tickets for the event. 

The BBC spoke to Sam Keaveney, 30, a student nurse from Stockton-on-Tees, who managed to obtain tickets for the festival next summer, which will be his second visit. 

He described it as “one of the best feelings” and said he just feels “so relieved and buzzing to go to the best place on Earth.” Mr Keaveney added: “It really doesn’t matter who’s playing as it’s just that big and so much to see, there’s always something and someone to see.”

Next year’s Glastonbury will take place over the 26-30 June and will feature over 3,000 artists. The headliners remain a closely guarded secret, with Emily Eavis denying rumours that the megastar Madonna would be headlining. She faced criticism for the all-male headliners this summer.

The main headline acts across Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the 2023 festival in June included the Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’Roses and Sir Elton John. There were rumours that Dua Lipa and Coldplay would be headlining in 2024, but Emily Eavis has also denied this.

Earlier this year, Mel C said that all five of the Spice Girls would be keen to reunite and play the traditional Sunday afternoon ‘legends’ slot that has been gaining in popularity over recent years. So far, huge acts such as Kylie Minogue, Blondie, and Yusuf aka Cat Stevens have played the slot.
