Activities In London This Winter

Matt Crisp November 10, 2021

Halloween is done with, the leaves on the trees are turning golden brown, and falling onto frosty ground. It can only mean that Christmas is right around the corner!

While that is exciting news for everyone, winter can also be cold and dark, and it’s important to keep yourself active and entertained to chase away the winter blues. So why not plan a trip to London, get some Christmas shopping done, and indulge yourself in some of the amazing activities you can find in the capital this winter.

Afternoon tea in an igloo!

You’re bound to work up an appetite, or at least a thirst, after spending the morning shopping on Oxford Street, so why not make your way to the capital’s most secretive garden for a couple of hours of fine food and drinks in the comfort of your own festive igloo dome!

You’ll find this secret garden tucked away in the heart of Kensington, in the Doubletree By Hilton, where the stunning pop-up igloo domes are designed with a sense of ambience, comfort and style, with each dome dedicated to an iconic singer.

You’ll be presented with a wide choice of delicious treats, such as delicate sandwiches – blue cheese broccoli and chestnut quiche, and roast checked and tarragon in a brioche bun. If you’re looking for something a bit sweeter, then there is chocolate and coffee mini-opera cakes, pistachio macaroons, creamy cheesecake and more.

Plain and raisin scones are served with Tiptree jam and clotted cream. Why not make it a sparkling affair with a glass of Champagne each? To book, visit Virgin Experience Days

Christmas market mini-break for two

A visit to an outdoor Christmas market has become a modern tradition for many people, and there’s nothing quite like the smell of mulled wine and roasting almonds to get you in a festive mood.

If you’re planning a weekend mini-break, then Wowcher has a great deal with Corus Hotel Hyde Park. It is the ideal location for all your London-based Christmas shopping needs, with options for a one or two-night stay, and a 1 pm late checkout.

The hotel is only a stone’s throw from Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, where you can enjoy a hot chocolate, jump on fairground rides, and buy gingerbread cookies when it opens on 19 November.

Candles and cocktails

If you’re feeling a little crafty, and also in the mood for a cocktail, then Cocktails by Candlelight is running a special masterclass that might be just your thing. During the 90-minute class, sponsored by Bombay Sapphire, you’ll learn how to make two delicious festive gin cocktails, as well as make an eco-friendly coconut wax candle.

You’ll be welcomed into the candlelit Christmas grotto at Seven Dials with a mulled winter warmer cocktail before getting your hands dirty. If you aren’t drinking, check out the Monday masterclasses which are centred on mocktails by Devant Drinks. Tickets start from £50pp.

Evening River Tour On The Thames For Two

After a day exploring the city, why not take a romantic cruise for two down London’s Riverside, drinking in the beauty of the city and all the sparkling Christmas lights, complete with champagne and canapés.

The two-hour journey will see your cruise past some of London’s most iconic landmarks, such as the London Eye, Big Ben and the Shard.
