It’s Back: The Birmingham Weekender Returns For 2017
Festival season may be drawing to a close but don’t despair – head to Birmingham in September for the city’s biggest arts event, spread over two days.
The Birmingham Weekender will return on September 22 – 24 in 2017 with the promise of a whopping 120 performances over the two days.
Once you’ve arranged minibus hire in Birmingham and booked your accommodation, you can look forward to a packed programme, including free DJ sets, family fun and on-tram entertainment.
Organisers advise families not to miss the colourful Rangeeli parade and to head to the Bull Ring Markets on the Sunday for an alternative village fete, while music lovers will find the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra playing in Birmingham New Street Station and the Multi-Story Orchestra performing in the Barclaycard Arena car park.
Visual arts will be on show around every corner, including projections in Cathedral Square and inflatable sculptures on the roof of the New Alexandra Theatre, while there’s also plenty of offer for theatre fans, who can enjoy performances from the rubber band creatures of the Hummelmania tribe and the peculiar Peregrinus from the KTO Theatre.
Take a tram trip between New Street and the Jewellery Quarter to enjoy the onboard entertainment, courtesy of comediennes Barbara Nice and Lorraine Bowen and performance collective Figs in Wigs. Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, meanwhile, will be performing new music on the city’s canals.
Head to Victoria Square for free DJ sets and all kinds of performances of disco, folk, bhangra and Northern Soul dancing, while the Birmingham Royal Ballet will be performing in the Bullring. Find out more about the weekend lineup here.
