Bournemouth In February: What’s On
Bournemouth is and always will be one of the most popular destinations for a holiday in the UK, no matter what time of year. Yes, you could go in summer so you can while away the days lazing on the beach, but don’t forget that it’s also a great place to go even when it’s not so warm and sunny. Here’s what’s on in Bournemouth in February if you are thinking of sorting out luxury minibus hire to take you to this wonderful part of the world next month.
Between the 11th and 19th, there’s an awful lot going on at Corfe, which you won’t want to miss if you’re on a family holiday. You can watch the launching of the castle’s trebuchet, which is new for this year, or have a go at the Zip Wire Challenge. You could take yourselves off on a Romance and Courtship themed quest around the castle or join in the Purbeck Literature Festival on the 19th where professional storyteller Martin Maunsley will be in residence.
The Lighthouse Holistic Festival
This festival is on between February 4th and 5th, and is back for its third year in 2017. If you’re keen to focus on your health and wellbeing this year, make sure you check out the hundreds of different stands, join in daytime talks with therapists, astrologers and even mystics like Flavia Kate Peters. Learn all about mindfulness and crystal therapy, as well as shamanic drumming and Shakti dancing. There are all sorts of activities for children as well so there’s no excuse for boredom!
On the 4th, make your way to St Peter’s Church in Bournemouth for a wonderful evening of fine music-making from Dorset’s newest orchestra, the Magna Sinfonia. Guest conductor is Cayenna Ponchione, musical director of the Grass Roots Orchestra in New York. The programme consists of Sibelius’s Symphony No 1 and Copland’s Appalachian Spring.
If classical music doesn’t float your boat, what about getting tickets to see Pet Shop Boys in concert? They’re finishing up their UK tour this year in Bournemouth on the 26th, with new songs from their latest album Super certain to be on the playlist, as well as all their famous classic tracks as well. But make sure you get in there quick as tickets are sure to sell out fast.
Head to the Bournemouth International Centre on the 18th for the second annual Beachhead extravaganza, a wargames event that features lots of models and different games, all sorts of demonstrations and tournaments run by local gaming groups.
Christmas might be over but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a performance of The Nutcracker. This would be perfect fun for all the family and who knows? You might instil a love of the ballet in your little ones for the rest of their lives. Make your way to the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre on the 21st to enjoy.
