Matt Crisp January 18, 2025

For sports fans, 2025 is shaping up to be a great year with an action packed calendar of exciting events across the country. Whether you’re into football, cricket, racing, tennis, golf or other sports, there’s something for all interests.

If the TV is usually your go-to way of watching your favourite sport, why not make 2025 the year when you catch some live in-person action? There’s nothing like the thrill of witnessing events first-hand, and experiencing the rollercoaster emotions of the crowd as they cheer on their favourites.

If you are planning to travel with a group of like-minded fans, why not cut out the stress of navigating traffic, parking, or using unreliable public transport with coach hire?

Here are some key dates in the 2025 sporting calendar for your diary.

February-March: Six Nations Rugby Championship

Rugby fans will be gearing up for some first class matches between England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France and Italy in the Six Nations Tournament

This year’s tournament kicks off with a clash between France and Wales at the Stade de France in Paris on 31 January, with Scotland taking on Italy at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh and England meeting Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on the following day (01 February).

March: The Cheltenham Festival

The Cheltenham Festival takes place on 11-14 March, and is the most prestigious event in the jump racing calendar. It all begins with Champion Day on Tuesday 11 March, with a chance to see the greatest stars of the past, present and future in action. It’s followed by the much-loved Style Wednesday, when spectators show off their best attire.

St Patrick’s Thursday celebrates all things Irish and that nation’s illustrious history of producing champion horses and jockeys. It all finishes off in spectacular style with the Gold Cup Day on Friday, with intense competition to win horse racing’s most coveted trophy.

May: The FA Cup Final, Wembley Stadium

The FA Cup is England’s oldest football tournament, and this year it’s held on the 17 May at its regular home of Wembley Stadium. Even if your favourite team doesn’t make it all the way to Wembley, it’s still a thrill to be part of the crowd on Cup Final day, and an experience that you will treasure for the rest of your life.

June: Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot is held on the 17-21 June this year, and for many it’s the highlight of both the sporting and the social calendar. As well as world class horse racing, the venue is renowned for the quality of its hospitality, and you will also see some of the UK’s best-dressed sports fans and race-goers seek to impress in the style stakes.

June-July: Wimbledon Tennis Championship, 30 June-13 July

The world’s oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament begins in its usual home of Wimbledon on 30 June, after a record-breaking 2024 Grand Slam tennis season. The event is loved not just for the world-class on court action, but also for its traditions such as Pimm’s and lemonade and strawberries and cream.

The Open Championship (Golf), July 17-20

Golf fans will be anticipating the 153rd Open Championship, which will be held at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland this year.

Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A, said: “We could not be more thrilled to be bringing The Open back to Royal Portrush in 2025. There will be huge excitement among golf fans around the world to see the best men’s players facing the challenge of this magnificent links once again.

He added: “The Open in 2019 was a massive success and showed just how much collective enthusiasm, passion and commitment there is to make Royal Portrush one of the leading venues for the Championship and to build a distinctive golf tourism brand for Northern Ireland.”
