Tom Jones And Sting Set To Headline New Plymouth Festival

Matt Crisp November 30, 2023

A new music festival in Plymouth is set to take place from 13 to 16 June 2024. The event will be known as Summer Sessions and is organised by Live Nation. BBC News reports that major headline acts have already been announced, including Sir Tom Jones, Sting, and Bryan Adams.

Live Nation are behind the successful Lytham Festival near Blackpool, which will take place from 3 to 7 July in 2024. The headline acts have already been announced, and include Hozier, Courteeners, James, and Madness. A fifth headline and the supporting acts will be announced shortly.

Five-day passes, individual tickets, and coach hire packages are already on sale for the Lytham Festival. It’s the biggest music festival in north west England, attracting over 20,000 visitors, and the organisers hope to replicate the success with the new Plymouth Festival.

Live Nation are keen to establish the Plymouth Summer Sessions Festival as a long-term event if it proves to be popular. They will be working with the local council to stage the event on Plymouth Hoe. It is estimated that around £1.2m of investment will be required to stage the event.

Council Leader Tudor Evans OBE said: “This is a brilliant deal for Plymouth, for music fans and for the tourist industry who will all benefit from people staying in hotels, drinking at bars and eating out.”

He added: “MTV Crashes showed that Plymouth has the wow factor when it comes to events. It was amazing for our profile and brought in £10 million into the local economy. The Hoe is known around the world, it has stunning views out to sea, to the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. I can’t think of a better setting for a music event.”

“The last few years have been extremely difficult for live music. Costs have massively escalated and risks are high. We have been looking for some time at bringing something special to the Hoe and we think this is it. I can’t wait to find out what the line-up will be and am told we only have a few weeks to wait!”

The Summer Sessions group already organise major live music events around the country, including at the Royal Highland Showgrounds in Edinburgh and Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. Further events take place in Bedford Park, Bedford, Markeaton Park in Derby, Guildhall Square in Southampton, and Stirling City Park in Stirling.

Tickets for the upcoming 2024 events are available online from the Summer Sessions website, with a range of acts already announced. It is possible to pay for the tickets in instalments. Depending on the order value, the payments can be split into three, or spliced into six, nine, or 12 instalments.
