Top Ideas To Treat Your Mum To A Memorable Mother’s Day Out

Matt Crisp March 3, 2025

The first signs of spring are in the air, and soon the verges and gardens will be alive with bluebells and daffodils. Before we know it Easter will be here, but there’s one very important date to remember between now and then: Mother’s Day on 30 March. If you are looking for a special and memorable way to celebrate your Mum this year, why not plan a day out?

A trip out somewhere special allows you to spend some quality time with your Mum, and you will have the shared experience to treasure in your memory bank. If you are blessed with multiple generations of mothers in your life, or just want to organise a group outing, consider a luxury minibus or coach hire.

This will ensure that you have a comfortable journey without the stress of navigation, busy traffic or finding a safe parking place. You’ll be able to relax and focus on enjoying some precious shared time with your family. Here are some inspirational ideas for a memorable Mother’s Day excursion on 30 March.

A scenic walk and afternoon tea

If your Mum is a nature lover, then a walk in the beautiful countryside is the perfect way to spend some soul-restoring one-to-one time together. Plan to end the day with afternoon tea and cakes (or even pack a picnic lunch if the weather is promising).

The Peak District has some charming locations, and is easily accessible from cities such as Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, and Sheffield. If your Mum has a sweet tooth, then Bakewell in Derbyshire is the perfect place: it’s the traditional home of the Bakewell Pudding. This is a delicious pastry dessert made with jam and almond paste.

The town is a popular tourist destination, with attractive walks along the River Wye and a landmark five-arch stone bridge. There are also medieval buildings, boutique clothing shops, outdoor gear stores, and of course an array of bakeries, cafes, and restaurants. On Mondays, there’s also a thriving Farmer’s Market where you can snap up local produce.

Chatsworth House

Staying in a Peak District, Chatworth House is just a short drive from Bakewell. If your Mum loves grand country houses, this is the mother of them all: a stunning Grade I listed stately home set in a 105 acre garden that has been home to the Devonshire family for over five centuries.

Over 25 rooms of the house are open to the public, including the regal State Rooms, the Painted Hall, and restored galleries that contain masterpieces from Rembrant, Reynolds, Lucian Freud, David Nash, and many more.

The gardens are also open to the public, and feature a hedge maze, beautiful water features, and miles of walks through woodlands, hillsides and along lakes and streams. After you’ve explored the house and grounds, treat your Mum to a delicious lunch or afternoon tea at the Cavendish Restaurant.

Mama Mia!: Visit London’s West End

If your Mum is a culture vulture, then treat her to a night out at the theatre. Book a show in one of London’s world famous West End theatres, with a pre-show dinner in Covent Garden. There are dozens of classic performances to choose from, including Mama Mia!; The Lion King; The Great Gatsby; Hamilton; and Moulin Rouge!: The Musical.

A luxury spa day

There’s no better way to spoil your Mum than some ultimate me-time: a luxury spa day will give her the perfect pampering session that she deserves. There are literally hundreds of destinations to choose from, including the original spa destination of them all: the Roman Baths in Bath.

The city is of course world renowned for its naturally warm mineral spa waters, which inspired the Romans to construct elaborate bath houses. Amazingly, these temples to good health and relaxation are still intact and open to visit today.

Take a tour of the ancient Baths, then book in for a unique steaming session at the Thermae Bath Spa, which combines the old and new structures. Vouchers are available for special experiences such as rooftop pool; the multi-sensory wellness suite, or an aromatherapy massage. Afterwards, enjoy a cream tea or a glass of Prosecco at the Spring’s Cafe.
