Top Things To Do In London Over The Easter Holiday Weekend

Matt Crisp April 8, 2025

It’s fast approaching the long Easter Bank Holiday weekend, and there’s still time to make some plans if your diary is looking rather empty. Who knows if the current fine spell of bright and sunny weather will hold on, but if you are heading to London, there is sure to be plenty of things to do, come rain or shine.

However, getting to London via public transport is bound to be a hassle on a Bank Holiday weekend, not least because it’s the first big holiday of the year and we’ve all had to wait a long time for it! Even if there are no strikes, closures or engineering works, buses or trains are sure to be crowded and prone to delays.

Driving can also be a stressful experience, with extra traffic, unfamiliar routes, and the lottery of finding a parking spot that doesn’t cost a small fortune. In fact, minibus or coach hire can be a much more cost effective and convenient way to travel if you have a group, large or small.

Here are some events happening in the capital over the Easter weekend and beyond, and what’s more, when you travel by coach, you’ll have a fun and sociable journey, and arrive relaxed, on time, and ready to make the most of your day or weekend.

Catch a show

If the kids are at a loose end and need something special to look forward to, then why not treat them to a musical at one of London’s famous West End theatres? There are so many world-class productions and family friendly shows to choose from.

At the Cambridge Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s award-winning production of Matilda The Musical is a funny and enjoyable story for all ages, based on the much-loved Roald Dahl novel. Your kids will be captivated by the plucky and extraordinary heroine who uses the power of her imagination to triumph over very difficult circumstances.

The music is written by the award-winning writer and musician Tim Minchin, and the stageplay is adapted by Dennis Kelly. With tickets from just £25 and matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm, it’s a bargain not to be missed. The performance is recommended for children aged six or over.

Visit a spring fair

The Horniman Museum and Gardens in Forest Hill, London, is holding its annual Spring Fair on Saturday 19 April. The beautiful gardens will be in full blossom and provide the perfect setting for live music, street food stalls, arts and crafts workshops, and much more.

You can make your own bonnet at the family crafts centre and take part in the Easter bonnet parade to the Bandstand, or get creative and bring one you made earlier. There will also be a circus skills workshop, where you can learn impressive and no doubt handy skills such as juggling, spinning and twirling hoops.

As if that’s not enough, there are fun fete games such as welly tossing, hook a duck, and a coconut shy. Round your day off by catching a spectacular bubble show by Kat from Bubbleology.

Check out the chocolate at Battersea Power Station

If you are looking to fit in a bit of everything on your Easter trip out to London, you could do a lot worse than visit Battersea Power Station

The site has been regenerated beyond its industrial origins since it supplied a fifth of London’s electricity in the mid-twentieth century. It was decommissioned between 1975 and 1983, and the grade II* listed Art Deco building stood empty until 2014.

The site is currently undergoing an ambitious £9bn redevelopment project that will create a mixture of residential and commercial use, with vibrant communities and over 19 acres of public space. The Power Station was the second phase of the redevelopment and has been open since 2022.

As well as being the London campus for US tech giant Apple, there are hundreds of high quality shops, restaurants, a theatre, wellness centres and much more to see and do. If you are craving your Easter chocolate fix, check out The Chocolate Station, where there is a tempting choice of treats from eggs and truffles to indulgent bars and cakes.
