London’s famous West End is making a welcome return to full strength this year, after two years of disappointments and delays. Why not make a day or two of it, arranging a corporate minibus hire with family and friends for a memorable and fun trip to the capital

You can stock up on Christmas presents in London’s renowned shopping streets, and enjoy the world class bars and restaurants. By night, head to the entertainment district for some of the best-loved shows and musicals ever produced, or sample something new and fresh. Here are a few of the top West End shows to catch this winter. 

 

The Book of Mormon, the Prince of Wales Theatre

Despite being just over 10 years old, The Book of Mormon is already a modern musical comedy classic. Its unlikely subject is the journey of two young missionaries, sent to spread of Jesus in Uganda. The mismatched pair encounter the harsh realities of the world, and overcome personal challenges to discover what the true purpose of religion is all about. 

The production has been put on around the world, and it has won a host of Olivier Awards and Tony Awards. 

 

Wicked, Apollo Victoria

This a fresh twist on the familiar Wizard of Oz tale. Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’, it is an imaginative retelling of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and the classic 1939 film adaption starring a young Judy garland.

The inspiring and moving tale of the young green-skinned Elphaba and her friendship with the good witch Glinda has delighted and captivated both audiences and critics since it opened in 2003. It’s sure to entrance with dazzling costumes, superb songs, and world class performers.

 

Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Piccadilly Theatre

Based on Baz Luhrmann’s Academy award winning 2001 film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, Moulin Rouge! the Musical is now entrancing audiences in Broadway and the West End. 

Set in the decadent and glamorous world of the Montmartre Quarter in early 20th century Paris, it is a tale of dangerous passions, high romance, low life, and the power of love. Featuring stunning choreography and songs, this is sure to be an unforgettable show to catch this winter. 

 

Mamma Mia! The Novello Theatre

This classic of stage and screen is now 20 years old, and the Abba hits are just as irresistible as ever. See all your favourite songs performed by some of the world’s best artistes, and enjoy a funny and uplifting story of friendship, families, live and romance along the way. What more could you ask for on a night out?

 

Matilda the Musical, Cambridge Theatre

This funny and endearing adaptation of Roald Dahl’s much loved children’s novel Matilda is sure to delight audiences of all ages. With funny and original songs by the comedian and songwriter Tim Minchin, it features the eponymous heroine as she uses her exceptionally sharp wits to outsmart her oppressors.
