Uncover London’s Best Private Gardens
Although it’s a vast modern metropolis, there are pockets of green space dotted all over London. While there are a great number of public parks and gardens, there are plenty that are kept hidden from the public.
However, on 17 and 18 June you’ll have the opportunity to explore some of these secret outdoor spaces, enjoying their tranquility and beauty as part of the Open Garden Squares Weekend.
Over 200 private gardens are opened to the public for one weekend only and given that they’re spread across 27 London boroughs, you’ll have to travel a fair bit to take in more than one or two. If you’re just visiting the UK’s capital, why not make a day of it with luxury minibus hire to take you to some of the top gardens you can explore?
Among the highlights are the garden at Number 10 Downing Street, the Crossrail Place Roof Garden at Canary Wharf, and the Medicinal Garden at the Royal College of Physicians.
But there are plenty of others that are less famous – but no less beautiful – taking part in the London-wide event. You can meander through community gardens, discover what’s planted in the green spaces in some of the city’s grandest addresses and find out what pupils are growing at some of the local schools.
Some of the gardens will be offering refreshments, others will be hosting garden fetes and live music, and in some you’ll be able to buy fresh produce. Take a look at the full list and start planning your route around some of London’s hidden gems.
