Visit Yorkshire’s Coast For Festival Fun This Autumn

Matt Crisp August 27, 2023

Many people love to hire a coach in Sheffield or another inland city in Yorkshire and head to the coast in Summer. But the arrival of autumn is no reason to stop.

Whether it is to the beach or enjoy seasonal events like Scarborough’s cricket festival, there are certainly loads of reasons people head to the east coast in the summer months.

However, just because the leaves are about to turn from green to gold, you shouldn’t be among those turning their backs on trips to the seaside. There are still plenty of big events to come that are well worth hiring a coach for.

For example, the weekend of September 15th-17th brings the Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage, with the 2023 theme being the Year of the Coast.

For three days this small town in the North York Moors National Park will be transformed with a plethora of artists coming to town and setting up pop-up galleries in homes. They will be joined by antique specialists, a fisherman teaching how to make a lobster pot, walks, talks, films, poetry and music.

Another big event on the East Coast is the Scarborough Jazz Festival, which takes place from the 22nd to the 24th of September.

Marking its 20th anniversary, the festival will feature an international line-up of bands and performers, including Jamil Sheriff’s Five Gold Rings, Jonny Mansfield Quintet, Mighty Like The Blues and, to give it some Yorkshire flavour, Doncaster Jazz Alumni.

Tickets are available from £20.75 each, although there are some VIP options available. All that plus the fact that Scarborough’s usual seaside attractions are still there, even if the weather may not be too warm around the Autumn equinox.

Nonetheless, these and other events show that there are still plenty of good reasons to hire a coach and head for the coast as summer fades and autumn starts to kick in.
