Why Coach Hire Makes Sense For Spring Hen and Stag Parties

Matt Crisp May 20, 2025

It’s the start of wedding season, and while a lot of effort goes into planning the big day, the hen or stag (or indeed sten) party should definitely not be an afterthought! It’s a classic rite of passage and a chance for the wedding party to bond and get to know each other better before the big day.

Whether you want to have one last wild night out on the town or a more structured activity such as a spa day or outdoor adventure, one essential ingredient for a successful party is simply getting everyone in the right place at the right time…a task that can feel a bit like herding cats.

No one wants to be the designated driver on a big night out, and coordinating taxis or public transport can be a headache at the best of times. Coach hire is an affordable alternative that will save you the stress of sticking to timetables or juggling last minute cancellations or delays.

Travelling by coach keeps the whole party together and means that the party can get started early, with your choice of music or on-board entertainment during the journey. There’ll be plenty of space for everyone, plus luggage storage and door to door drop offs if you are making a weekend of it and don’t want to drag heavy bags around station concourses.

Here are some exciting suggestions for memorable stag or hen party destinations around the UK.

Ideas for mixed groups

If you’ve got a mixed gender group, or even want to break with tradition and combine the stag and hen party (sometimes called a ‘sten’ party), then you’ll want to make sure that the big night or weekend has something for everyone. Here are a few suggestions.

Quad biking

If you’ve got a group who are up for some thrills and friendly competition, then quad biking is a fantastic choice. It’s a chance to get out in the countryside and enjoy some fresh air, while tackling an exciting new challenge. Just imagine being able to drive as fast as you like and show off your skills in front of all your mates…a dream come true for many!

Even if you are not noted for your driving skills, it’s all a good laugh and will provide you with those memorable moments for social media. Choose a venue that is set in beautiful countryside surroundings, but is also handy for a cool city such as Bristol or Manchester, so you’ve got plenty of choices to move on for your evening entertainment.

A river cruise

If you’ve got a more chilled out crowd, then a river cruise could be the perfect sten do. It’s a perfect opportunity for sightseeing in a large city such as London, or for spotting wildlife in the countryside if that’s more your scene. It could even be a party venue in itself if you hire a large boat with a bar.

For a more sedate experience, you could hire a canal boat and take turns at navigating it through some of the 2,000 miles of canals we have in the UK.

Hen do ideas

If you have a classic girlie crowd who love the whole pampering and chilling experience, then a spa day or even a weekend is a natural choice. If you’re an arty crafty crowd, then a ‘paint and sip’ or jewellery making workshop might be fun.

Stag do ideas

The classic stag do involves a pub crawl or themed bar crawl with fancy dress, but for an interesting alternative, try a comedy club night, a gaming night, or a brewery or whisky tasting tour.

However, not every group will fit the stereotype, so the best policy is to chat over your ideas with everyone and try to include some flexibility in your plans.

For example, if you’ve got a group of lads who are up for a classic weekend of drinking and partying in a European city, but others who would prefer to explore art galleries and architecture, schedule times when the party can split into smaller groups and meet up for a meal later on.
