The Hampton Court Flower Show is the London flower show for real gardeners. While Chelsea Flower Show in May may pull in the glamour pusses and television cameras, it is Hampton Court where serious gardeners will go to pick up some incredible specimens for their gardens.

Many of the plant exhibitors will have samples available for sale, so this is the perfect place to pick up something special. Whether it is a particular shrub, or some unusual bulbs for the spring, the exhibitors will be able to show you full grown specimens and give you invaluable care tips, that you may not be able to get hold of in a garden centre.

The Show hosts the annual Rose Festival. This is unlike any other flower show in the country and takes places in a flower tent the size of a football field.

The country’s leading nurseries will be represented so don’t worry if you are from out of town, you will probably be able to get hold of something raised outside of London, and suitable for your garden.

If you really want to fill your garden then make sure you go on the Sunday when many of the stall holders sell off the plants that were used in their incredible displays. Make sure you bring enough bags to bring your new finds home!

There will also be a wide range of stalls selling weird and wonderful gardening equipment, as well as many of the more traditional household names. Many will have offers on for the show so this may be the opportunity you have been looking for to get your hands on some quality equipment you couldn’t otherwise afford.

What about barbeques? There is an incredible range of options from fire-pits through to tables with barbeques embedded in them for thousands of pounds.

You can get half day or full day tickets, and it is a great idea to make a day of it. There is a great food court with stalls from a wide range of producers. You can even kick back and listen to a little music while you rest at lunch time.

Don’t forget to pick up a pint at the end of the day to reward your hard work, and the fact you don’t have to drive home.
