How To Stay Entertained On Long Coach Journeys

Matt Crisp October 20, 2020

With overseas travel looking unlikely for many of us at the moment because of the pandemic, there’s no time like the present to think about going on an epic UK staycation instead.

The great news about this is that there’s some incredible countryside right on our doorstep, so even if you can’t hop on a plane to jet off to foreign climes, this doesn’t mean that you can’t still have the holiday of a lifetime.

And you don’t even have to drive yourself to your choice of destination, since we have the luxury of coach hire at our easy disposal these days. All you need to do is tell your driver where you want to go and sit back and relax with the whole family.

But, of course, you need to find ways to keep everyone entertained if you are going to be on the road for a long time – so here are just a couple of ideas from the team here at A Class to help you while away the hours.

Learn a new language

What about upskilling while en route to your holiday destination? Apps like Duolingo are brilliant places to begin and will certainly keep you busy. Once you’ve got a few basics down, what about upping your game and watching a foreign film – without the subtitles!

Meditate

Mindfulness and meditation can do wonders for our mental health and wellbeing, and a long car journey is a brilliant opportunity to start practising these skills. Download an app and give it a go. After the pressures of the last few months, you may be surprised at just how quickly any feelings of anxiety or depression dissipate.

Play Associations

If you have young children travelling with you, being prepared with some games to play is definitely a good idea. Associations is a fun one for young and old, and very simple to pick up.

All you do is start by saying a word (any word will do) and then go around the coach clockwise, with the next person saying something that has a connection to the previous word. Try and do it as fast as you can for even more in-coach entertainment.

Car bingo

If you’ve got the time before you leave, why not prepare a game of car bingo for everyone to play? Make cards for everyone and include items you’re likely to see on the drive, such as a yellow car, an Eddie Stobart lorry, motorway services, cows and so on. Bring some prizes with you for when someone finally shouts out “bingo”.

Sleep

And, of course, one of the most obvious ways to keep busy on a car journey is to do the exact opposite and go to sleep. Put your favourite playlist on, get comfortable in our luxurious coach seats and nod off until you finally arrive at your destination.
