Staycationing? Make Sure You Stay Safe
With the glorious sunny and warm weather the UK has been enjoying for the past few weeks, it’s understandable that many of us are deciding to holiday in our own country this year, rather than jetting off in search of hotter weather.
This is a great way to not only see a bit more of the UK, but also to save a bit of money if you plan properly. For a group of you to escape the city, for example, it could be more cost effective to organise coach hire from London to take you to and from your chosen destination, rather than all driving.
However, the Express recently pointed out that when we staycation we tend to be a little more relaxed about potential problems. The newspaper noted that we typically don’t apply enough sunscreen, or products of a high enough factor, when we’re in the UK, compared to holidaying overseas.
The news provider also highlighted the problem of insect bites in our home country. If we’re packing for a trip to an exotic destination, insect repellent will always be in our bags. But often when we stay at home we forget that mosquitoes, midges and ticks can cause irritating bites – and even illness in some cases.
GP Dr Paul Stillman noted that dehydration is another thing we need to consider when holidaying in the UK. “Always have water to hand and sip regularly, even if you don’t feel particularly thirsty,” he advised.
